Mariah Carey: ‘I have anniversaries not birthdays, darling’
By Josh Haggis
Mariah Carey has given us yet another classic diva moment – this time while discussing her age.
During an interview with Out magazine now published in The Observer, the butterfly-loving singer was asked how she feels about her first US Number One single, Vision of Love, now being nearly 25 years old.
“First of all, don’t round up. If you’re going to round, round down!” she replied. “I don’t count years, but I definitely rebuke them – I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling.”
“…Please put an LOL next to this, because people are going to be, like: WTF?” Carey added.
Earlier this week it was reported that Carey may be about to follow in the footsteps of Beyoncé by putting out her new album as an ‘all at once’ digital release.
Carey has released three singles from the album so far, #Beautiful, The Art of Letting Go and You’re Mine (Eternal). The poor performance of the latter is thought to have been the reason for the album’s latest delay.
Carey turned 44 last month (March), and to celebrate her “anniversary” we shared our favourite ever Mariah moments.
