Matthew McConaughey won’t be back for ‘Magic Mike’ sequel

Matthew McConaughey will not be returning for the forthcoming sequel to hit male stripper film Magic Mike.
The sequel’s director, Greg Jacobs, confirmed that the Oscar-winning actor will not be reprising his role as Dallas in the forthcoming film, which has been titled Magic Mike XXL.
Jacobs went on to discuss the plot of XXL, revealing that it is “different enough” from the original 2012 film, which was directed by Steven Soderbergh.
“What am I allowed to say? It’s a road trip movie and put it this way, it’s different enough that once you see it you’ll understand why we made a sequel. No-one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice,” the director told Indiewire.
Several of the original film’s stars – Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello – are all due to return for the sequel, though it’s yet to be confirmed whether Alex Pettyfer will be back too.
Magic Mike XXL is set for release on July 1 next year (2015).
