Mears, Laugher win synchro Commonwealth diving gold
Chris Mears and Jack Laugher have won gold in the men’s 3m synchronised springboard diving event at the Commonwealth Games.
The pair racked up a total score of 431.94 for their joint diving efforts, securing them victory ahead of Australia’s Matthew Mitcham and Grant Nel, who won silver, and another English pair, Nick Robinson-Baker and Freddie Woodward, who took home bronze.
Describing their performance in the event, Laugher told our friends at Sports Mole: “We were absolutely flying. Our first three optional dives were absolutely fantastic, some of the best we’ve ever done.”
This marks Mears’ first medal of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the third for Laugher, who won gold in the 1m springboard event and silver in the individual 3m springboard event.
Mears recently revealed that he and Laugher, who have become good friends since joining forces in the synchronised diving event, are planning to move in together – read more about it here.
Oh, and Laugher recently shared a super-cute picture of the pair chilling in their hotel room – check it out here.
