Meryl Streep will reportedly play Maria Callas in a film version of Terrence McNally’s play Master Class.

Production on the film, which is the latest project from director Mike Nichols, will begin production in January, according to Page Six.

The film will tell the story of Callas’s career and personal life, from teaching at Julliard in the early ’70s, to her failed relationship with Aristotle Onassis.

McNally’s original production debuted on Broadway in 1995, and starred Zoe Caldwell and Audra McDonald. Both actresses went on to win Tony Awards for their performances.

Meanwhile, Streep is preparing for another musical project, Ricky and the Flash. She is reportedly being taught to play the guitar with Neil Young for the film.

Earlier this year, the actress received her 18th Academy Award nomination for August: Osage County. She has won three Oscars for Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice and The Iron Lady.
