Michelle Visage: ‘Gays have turned their back on Madonna’
By Josh Haggis
Michelle Visage has argued that the gay community has turned its back on Madonna.
The Drag Race judge has claimed that the disappointing sales of the Queen of Pop’s latest album Rebel Heart prove that, despite her doing “so much for the gays” during her career, the younger members of the LGBT community don’t know or care who she is.
“The gays have kind of turned their back on her,” said Visage in an interview with Jonny McGovern for his ‘Hey Kween’ web show. “These young gays don’t know what she did for the community and what she continues to do. She did so much for HIV/AIDS, she has done so, so much for the gays. So much, and they forget. The young ones don’t even see her.”
She went on to suggest that there will never be another superstar on the level of Madonna during our lifetime, even though some singers may have come close.
“It makes me so sad that the children today really don’t know what she is,” she continued. “To me, we will never see a superstar ever in our lifetime like Madonna or Michael Jackson.”
“There’s been fringe ones — there’s Whitney Houston, there’s Mariah — but there will never be another Madonna,” added Visage.
Meanwhile, Drag Race recently unveiled a video to introduce the latest member of the show’s hunky Pit Crew – watch it here.
