Morrissey confirms cancer treatment: ‘If I die, then I die’
By Will Stroude
Morrissey has revealed that he has been receiving treatment for cancerous tissue.
The former Smiths frontman has been repeatedly hospitalised over the last 18 months, and has now admitted that doctors have been giving him a series of cancer scrapes – though he has not specified what they are for.
“They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever,” he told El Mundo. “If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t.
“Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do. I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead.”
The 55-year-old has faced a number of health struggles in recent years, after being diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer in 2013, double pneumonia in March 2013 and a respiratory infection in June 2014.
In the same interview, Morrissey stated that he is “now at an age when I should no longer be making music… Many composers of classical music died at age 34. And I’m still here, and nobody knows what to do with me.”
The Suedehead singer released 10th studio album World Peace is None of Your Business earlier this year (July), which peaked at Number Two on the Official UK Albums Chart.
