‘Nashville’ to introduce openly gay country star

Kyle Dean Massey will star as an openly gay country singer in the third season of Nashville, it has been announced.
The Broadway star has landed a recurring role in the musical drama series as Kevin Bicks, a successful singer-songwriter who also happens to be gay, according to Deadline.
Kevin’s arrival is expected to cause complications for closeted country singer Will Lexington (Chris Carmack), who viewers have seen struggle with the belief that country music stars must hide their sexuality in order to be successful.
Massey – who is also gay in real life – is best known for his role in Broadway musicals Wicked, Pippin and Next to Normal, while his TV credits include guest roles on Hart of Dixie and The Good Wife.
The third season of Nashville returns on Wednesday, February 4 on ABC. Watch a trailer for the upcoming episode below:
