New NSFW trailer for The Prince promises gay shower sex and prison politics in 70s Chile

A new, NSFW trailer for The Prince has been released – and this pulpy prison drama appears to feature lot of well-lit male nudity, among other things.
Set in a volatile men’s prison in 1970s Chile, The Prince concerns a beautiful young inmate Jaime, nicknamed ‘The Prince’ (played by Juan Carlos Maldonado) who catches the eye of his much older cellmate Potro, ‘The Stud’ (Alfredo Castro).
A seemingly fantastical and brutal look at life behind bars – where most, if not all the men are into sex with other men – the film is directed by Sebastián Muñoz.
Based on Mario Cruz’s novel of the same name, The Prince is out on DVD and on digital on all major platforms on 7 December.

“A homoerotic and captivating tale”
In quotes provided to Attitude, director Muñoz says of the film: “When I found this book in a second-hand bookstore, I did not expect that behind what seemed a cheap erotic novel I would discover an amazing portrait of 1970s Chilean society, conveyed through a story of violence, love and sex between prisoners, a homoerotic and captivating tale.

“As a gay man in his 40s, and part of a generation that won the right of being homosexual without euphemisms, I could not even imagine how disruptive this book was for its time, for both the conservatives and the Chilean left wing.
“This inspired me to take this story to the big screen, using all my experience in production design, creating space, architecture, texture and colours to build the world of The Prince.”
“He learns that his protection comes at a price”
Over on Pecadillo Pictures’ YouTube landing page for the trailer, the plot is described thusly: “Jamie is sent to prison after the murder of his best friend, ‘The Gypsy’. Young and good looking, he catches the eye of ‘The Stud’, an older, respected man who soon stakes his claim.

“When The Prince finds himself drawn to another prisoner, he learns that his protection comes at a price. Finding himself at the centre of prison politics, the Prince is caught in a war between love and loyalty that threatens to plunge the whole prison into chaos.”
It sounds like Orange Is the New Black meets Stranger By the Lake. We’re in.
Winner of the Queer Lion award at this year’s Venice Film Festival, The Prince so far has a 92% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
