Ofcom received over 1,200 complaints about Perez Hilton on CBB

Ofcom has revealed that it won’t investigate Celebrity Big Brother, despite receiving over 1,200 complaints about Perez Hilton’s behaviour on the show.

The media watchdog has said that the controversial reality show, which ended its current run last month (February), was responsible for 2,736 viewer complaints in total. Out of these, 715 were about Hilton’s “sexualised behaviour,” while a further 480 were regarding his “threatening behaviour”.

“Ofcom carefully assessed a number of complaints about this series of Celebrity Big Brother and has decided they do not raise issues warranting further investigation under our rules,” a spokesperson told The Guardian.

“We were satisfied Channel 5 had broadcast clear and appropriate warnings about the potentially offensive content, and that it intervened in heated exchanges and situations at appropriate times. We also took into account audience expectations for this reality format and the fact that the series was broadcast after the watershed,” they added.

During this year’s series, the celebrity blogger quickly became one of the most notorious housemates to ever appear on the show.

He told fellow housemates that living with Katie Hopkins was like “living in the AIDS crisis of the 1980s,” and his behaviour drove Drag Race star Michelle Visage to claim that he is an “embarrassment” to the LGBT community.
