Olly Alexander hits out after shop labels Year & Years as ‘gay’ music
By Umar Sarwar
Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander has reacted to a photo on Twitter today, which showed his album in a music shop’s ‘gay’ section.
The image, posted by user Theresa, sparked Alexander’s objections to the idea that his music could be defined this way, questioning whether ‘gay’ is even a viable music genre.
Alexander started a discussion online about the image, tweeting: “if u think my music is gay that’s cool i love being gay and i love my gay music but can u really label a sound or style of music “gay”.”
The 25-year-old then started poking fun at the idea, tweeting: “hi what kind of music do you make? gay.”
