Olly Alexander teams up with Pet Shop Boys for new single
The Years & Years frontman joined the 1980s pop-synth duo for a new collaboration

Olly Alexander has teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys for a new single.
The openly gay frontman of Years & Years joined the iconic 1980’s pop-synth duo Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe in the studio last week where they teased a new collaboration.
Writing on Twitter, the Pet Shop Boys wrote: “It was fun today to be back in the studio with Mr Olly Alexander of @yearsandyears! Neil x (Photo by Pete Gleadall)”
Olly then replied to the tweet calling the duo his heroes.

It’s not sure when the new single will be released but it’s not the first time the three have got together after working with each other back in 2017.
Olly told the Guardian at the time: “I felt like I didn’t want to write about politics simply because I felt like I should, but then last week I wrote a song with the Pet Shop Boys.
“It’s inspired by a fairground in Margate called Dreamland, but while I was writing it, Neil Tennant said to me, ‘This makes sense right now with Trump closing the borders’, and the song became something that touched on what’s going on in the world.
“I’d write lyrics and he’d say, ‘No, it needs to be more direct.’ He’d take a simple line and interject a subversive political statement. That’s the challenge as a pop writer, to do both at once.”
