Blair Brown has joined the cast of US prison drama Orange Is the New Black.

The actress – who previously appeared as Nina Sharp on science fiction series Fringe – will star in the third season of the Netflix series, The Wrap has confirmed.

Mary Steenburgen has also been added to the cast, and will play the mother of prison guard George ‘Pornstache’ Mendez. However, Mendez recently confirmed that he will not be appearing in the new season.

Orange Is the New Black‘s renewal was confirmed by star Laura Prepon via Instagram in May, before the second season had even premiered – read more here.

Based on a memoir by Piper Kerman, Orange Is the New Black centres on a middle-class New York woman called Piper Chapman, now engaged to a man, who is given 15 months’ jail time after her former girlfriend, an international drug smuggler, grasses her up for transporting a suitcase full of drug money ten years previously.

Last month, the cast of the acclaimed series sent a video message to London, wishing the city a ‘Happy Pride!’ – watch the message here.
