‘Orange Is the New Black’: Real-life Alex to publish memoir
By Sam Rigby
The woman who inspired Orange Is the New Black‘s Alex Vause will release her own memoir next year.
Piper Kerman’s ex-girlfriend and former prison mate, Cleary Wolters, will look back at the “unbelievable saga” that led her to jail in the book.
Titled, Out of Orange, the memoir will be published in 2015, and follows the international success of Kerman’s memoir Orange Is the New Black and its TV adaptation.
Wolters explains: “Alex and Piper have inspired me to tell my whole story, an unbelievable saga that takes place all over the world: Africa, Europe, Asia, and the US both in prison and out.
“I think people may be surprised at what happened to me after I turned myself in – and where my life is now.”
Meanwhile, Wolters confirmed to Vanity Fair that the Netflix series does differ from real-life events, saying: “We did not have sex in prison. Not even a little bit.”
Laura Prepon plays Alex Vause in the Netflix series, and will return as a series regular in the upcoming third season.
At Saturday’s (August 16) Creative Emmy Awards, actress Uzo Aduba took home the Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series trophy for her turn as Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren.
The main Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on August 25, and will be shown live on US network NBC. The Normal Heart and Orange is the New Black swept the board in the nominations – take a look at the full list here.
