Actress Uzo Aduba has won an Emmy for her work on Orange is the New Black.
Aduba, 33, took home the Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series trophy at the Creative Emmy Awards last night (August 16) for her performance as lesbian inmate Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren on the popular Netflix show.
She beat her co-stars Laverne Cox (who plays Sophia) – the first ever trans actress to be nominated for an Emmy – and Natasha Lyonne (Nicky) to the prize, in a category that also featured Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy and 30 Rock actress Tina Fey.
“I don’t know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show day in, day out,” said the actress during her acceptance speech. “I have never thought about where an Emmy should go in my home… now, I have to!”
After the ceremony, Aduba spoke to reporters backstage about her win, saying: “I feel so full, that’s why the tears come out. I’m stuffed. My cup runneth over right now. Mission accomplished, thank you.”
The main Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on August 25, and will be shown live on US network NBC. The Normal Heart and Orange is the New Black swept the board in the nominations – take a look at the full list here.
