Out actor Fra Fee joins Luke Evans and Josh Gad in Beauty and the Beast prequel series

The musical series is set to take place years before the 2017 remake of the Disney classic.

Disney has cast Fra Fee in is upcoming prequel series to the 2017 live-action remake of the iconic, Beauty and the Beast.

The eight-part musical series, Little Town, written by Josh Gad, who starred as LeFou in the 2017 film will see Gad’s character and Luke Evans’ Gaston team up with LeFou’s step-sister, Tilly played by Briana Middleton.

Fee, who is gay, is set to play the handsome and charismatic Prince Benoit Berlioz, a childhood friend of Tilly’s, it’s been reported by Deadline.

Celebrating the news on Instagram, Fee said on Wednesday (19 January): “Some day my prince will come…” THRILLED to be joining @thereallukeevans & @joshgad on this. The wee lad who watched the beast turn into the prince repeatedly on VHS is even more so.”

The series will be set in the kingdom of Beauty and the Beast years before the event of the film take place. Josh Gad recently confirmed that the series is “still planning on shooting this spring” in an interview with Comicbook

At the end of the 2017 remake, LeFou was revealed to be gay in a blink and you’ll miss it moment. It’s not clear if the series will develop this plotline or if Fee’s character will be involved with LeFou at all.

Deadline reports that a surprising revelation from Tilly’s past comes to light, which will lead her, Gaston, and LeFou on a journey filled with romance, comedy, and adventure.

Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are reported to be working as executive producers/co-showrunners, while the Tony Award-nominated director Liesl Tommy also produces and directs the pilot.

Fee has had roles in the Marvel-Disney+ series Hawkeye, Amazon’s Cinderella, starring Camilla Cabello, and 2012’s Les Misérables.
