Paloma Faith says she faced a ‘witch hunt’ for saying she’d embrace an LGBTQ child

Excl: “I was called a child abuser, and that’s appalling” says 'Gold' singer from red carpet of tonight's 2020 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar

Paloma Faith has said she faced a media “witch hunt” after saying she’d embrace an LGBTQ child.

The ‘Gold’ singer, speaking from the red carpet of tonight’s 2020 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar, adds that some people even called her a “child abuser” over her beliefs.

The star is currently pregnant with her second child. She and partner Leyman Lahcine are already parents to a three-year-old daughter.

“I’m willing to fight”

Paloma, who will be performing at tonight’s awards, airing at 9pm on Attitude’s YouTube page, tells us: “When talking about children and gender and also sexuality, I pretty much will accept anything. I said that quite openly in the press and there was a bit of a witch hunt for me, at some stage. Criticising me. Some people called me a child abuser.

“I wanted to take this minute to say that I think that’s appalling. And that yes, if my child was gay, or was a transgender child, I would embrace whatever they wanted, in the moment they wanted. Even if they wanted to change their mind a million times in their lifetimes, I feel I would accept that – because it’s personal choice – and support.

“So I don’t have an issue, when thinking about being a parent, about that sort of stuff. It’s just that it’s tragic to me that when I talk about it, how rude the media has been about that. So I’m willing to fight.”

“We live in a culture where everyone’s got an opinion and thinks their opinion’s valid. Actually, the only person whose opinion is valid in the issue of transgender is the person who decides who they are and what their identity is, and that’s personal choice. I’m not actually interested in anybody else’s opinion, other than the individuals it involves.
