Pet Shop Boys are Attitude’s brand new cover stars

This month, the UK’s most successful musical duo of all time celebrate 30 years since the release of their first album with a brand new single (‘The Pop Kids’) and album (‘Super’), and we’re thrilled to welcome the legendary Pet Shop Boys to the cover of Attitude’s April Issue – available to download now!

In an exclusive 10-page interview and gloriously puppy-filled new shoot Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe look back on their incredible four decades in the industry, and reveal how they remain such a powerful pop force in 2016 – not to mention such good friends.

“Our priority has always been the songwriting and then making the records,” says singer Neil Tennant.

“When you first have success it feels so incredible, you can’t believe you have it. Then you don’t think it’s going to last. With ‘West End Girls’ we were potentially a classic one hit wonder.

“Even the record company thought so. If you’d said to us in 30 years’ time you’ll have performed at the Olympics, headlined Glastonbury in your fifties… I think there’s a feeling of pride to have created something that at the very least has a sort of intense following from a certain number of people.”

The duo, who have sold more than 50 million records, also talk about of the huge impact David Bowie had on them.

“He was a huge influence,” continues Tennant. “I remember my brother and I watching the Old Grey Whistle Test. We’d already heard some of the songs on Sounds of the Seventies, which was on at 7pm.

“The camera started right on David Bowie’s face and it was just mesmerizing. My brother Simon and I immediately became massive David Bowie fans overnight. …He had astonishing charisma. But the influence is probably the electronic David Bowie. Not the Ziggy Stardust. Chris loved the song ‘Sweet Thing’ from Diamond Dogs, which was a very dark and strange song.”
