Pet Shop Boys to debut Alan Turing work at BBC Proms

The Pet Shop Boys will debut their new orchestral piece, based on the life and work of Alan Turing, at this year’s BBC Proms.
A Man from the Future, inspired by the late mathematician and computer scientist, will receive its world premiere at the Royal Albert Hall on July 23.
The Pet Shop Boys will also perform orchestral arrangements of their hits during the concert.
“It is an honour for us to be invited to present some new music at the Proms and to celebrate Alan Turing 60 years after his death,” duo Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe said in a statement.
Turing – who played a crucial role in defeating Nazi Germany – was prosecuted for gross indecency in 1952, after it was discovered that he was in a homosexual relationship.
He was sentenced to chemical castration and later committed suicide in 1954.
Turing was granted a posthumous pardon by the Queen on December 23 under the Royal Prerogative of Mercy.
Paloma Faith and Rufus Wainwright will also make their BBC Prom debuts, while this year’s festival will also honour the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.
