Pete Waterman set to re-record his biggest hits
Pete Waterman is to release an album of orchestral covers of his greatest hits.
The legendary record producer – who together with Mike Stock and Matt Aitken ruled the charts with hiNRG hits by Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley and Sonia – says he was inspired to produce the album after ballad versions of tracks like One For Sorrow and Love In The First Degree went down a storm at his one night show at the Royal Festival Hall this summer.
Among the songs due to appear on his album is Turn It Into Love, a track that first appeared on Kylie’s first album and became a surprise number one hit in Japan. It was later covered by Hazell Dean and X Factor brother/sister band Same Difference.
“Turn It Into Love is one of our biggest hits ever,” Pete told Attitude.
“Even though it was a B-side on Kylie’s first album it had a life of its own and was a massive hit in Japan for Kylie nad was covered by a girl band out there. I remember going to Japan and hanging out in a karaoke bar and I heard a song that I recognised. I said ‘this is my song’. And these business men we were with said ‘No this is a hit song in Japan by a group called Wink’. I said no it’s mine. Only when the song ended and Stock Aitken Waterman flashed up did they realise it was my song.
“The song is amazing and is going to be featured on a new album of mine which slows our [hits] down. After the recent festival hall show I did, the reactions to Love In The First Degree by Toni Tuesday and Claire Richards’ One For Sorrow were so amazing.’’
