Pets Shop Boys to perform at Prague Pride
By Will Stroude
The Pet Shop Boys will perform at Prague Pride tomorrow (August 13).
The legendary electro-pop duo will play a special concert at the newly-opened Forum Karlín as part of Prague Pride week (August 11-16), which is seeing more than 100 social, cultural and political events take place in the Czech capital.
The gig serves as part of the Pet Shops Boys’ current tour in support of their 13th studio album Electric, which debuted at number three on the UK’s Official Albums Chart upon its release last year (2013).
The duo recently debuted their musical tribute to World War II code-breaker Alan Turing, A Man from the Future, at the BBC Proms – click here to read our review of the pair’s unique pop opera.
The Czech Republic has one of the best gay rights records in Eastern Europe and Prague Pride is the biggest event of its kind in the region, with 20,000 people expected to turn out for the fourth annual celebration – which this year has a theme of ‘East meets West’.
“Never mind where are you from, just arrive to Prague to say that you support tolerance and you are against prejudices. We and Pet Shop Boys hate hatred,” the event’s organisers said in a statement on the Prague Pride website.
The week’s main event – the Prague Pride Parade – takes place this Saturday (Aug 16), setting off from the landmark Wenceslas Sqaure. The parade will run through the city to Letná Park, where a free concert will take place throughout the evening.
