‘Queer Eye’ star hits back at body-shamers in brilliant online post

By Troy Nankervis

Former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy grooming expert Kyan Douglas has slammed the body-shamers who sometimes feature across his social media accounts.

After becoming a household name in the noughties for working his magic on heterosexual men, Douglas has continued to make regular TV appearances including an ongoing stint as The Rachael Ray Show’s style expert.

But this week, the 45 year-old has made a different kind of critique, hitting back at the fans that take it upon themselves to comment on the way he looks, reports Gay Star News.

“People, with some regularity, contact me here or comment about my weight: ‘Don’t lose too much, don’t gain too much,’” he writes

“About my hair: ‘wear it this way, not that way’. My beard: ‘Shave it, trim it, grow it’, my smile: ‘Smile more, take more shirtless selfies’.”

Douglas has a simple message for those issuing these helpful nuggets of advice: “Don’t.”

“What you’re doing amounts to a subtle form of image shaming. Knock it off. Love me, or not, the way I am. How I present myself is my call. You do you.”

He adds the “only person” he would give some leeway is not longer with us.

“The only person that could get away with telling me how to look or be is my mother and she’s dead,” he writes.

“Nothing but love intended but we need to check ourselves my gay brethren. Hope you can receive this in the spirit it is intended- straightforward and kindly.”
