We’re about to get a good helping of queer representation in the covert spy world thanks to Q-Force, which is coming to Netflix later this year.
The animated series sees a bunch of scrappy spies, who are all members of the LGBTQ Community, fight to prove themselves after being seriously underestimated by their hetero-managers.
The series, starring Sean Hayes, Wanda Sykes, David Harbour, Patti Harrison, Matt Rogers, and Laurie Metcalf is set to premiere on Netflix on 2 September.
“Go rogue!”
The latest trailer for the series sees “the best of the best” (and hunky) Steve Merryweather (Sean Hayes) of the American Intelligence Agency come out as gay and immediately be demoted from valedictorian to reject and shipped off to a posting in West Hollywood.
There he assembles a small team of queer agents made up of the expert mechanic Deb (Wanda Sykes), master of drag and disguise Twink (Matt Rogers), and hacker Stat (Patti Harrison)
Together they decide to “go rogue” and uncover an illegal nuclear arms deal with ties to the US government. Sounds good right!? In one hilarious scene Sykes’ Deb tells Rogers’ Twink, who’s dressed in full drag, “thank god for you drag queen”, to which Rogers replies, “Thank god for every drag queen! But not actually, obviously…”, which we’re sure many actual drag queens can relate to.
The trailer ends with Metcalf’s character, V, explaining that the team has been given the nickname Q-Force and saying to the team, “I’ll make them stop” with Merryweather replying, “I kinda like it”.
We do too! The series is also a win for LGBTQ representation with Hayes, Sykes, Harrison, and Rogers all part of the LGBTQ community and playing queer characters. That’s what we like to see!
Q-Force arrives on Netflix on 2 September.
