Reese Witherspoon has revealed they have a script for Legally Blonde 3.
Last year, the actress confirmed she will be reprising her role as defence lawyer Elle Woods in a third instalment of the hit franchise and took to Twitter to reveal the exciting news.
And although there has been little news on the anticipated third movie, Witherspoon has now given some more information.
While speaking at the New Year premiere of Big Little Lies season two, she told Entertainment Tonight: “[We have] a script, but we haven’t shot anything.
“[Elle’s] a very beloved character. You just want her to go on a hero’s journey like she does in the first movie, and I’m having a great time working on it.”
Legally Blonde 3 will be produced in conjunction with Witherspoon’s own production company Hello Sunshine, which has helmed hits like 2014’s Gone Girl and HBO’s Emmy-winning drama series Big Little Lies.
Legally Blonde‘s surprise success at the box office in the summer of 2001 lead to a sequel, Legally Blonde: Red, White and Blonde, two years later – and while the reception to that particular film was, shall we say, more muted, Witherspoon has expressed interest in returning to the role of Elle Woods in recent years.
