Rob Delaney: ‘We have Attitude to thank for Carrie Fisher’s role in ‘Catastrophe’

By Josh Haggis

The creator’s of upcoming Channel 4 comedy series Catastrophe have revealed that they have the Attitude Awards to thank for getting Carrie Fisher on the show.

Comedians Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s upcoming Channel 4 show follows the story of a couple thrust together after a passionate affair

The pair attended the Attitude Awards back in October, where the legendary Carrie Fisher presented the Icon Award to Graham Norton. If you’re yet to see it, take a look below:

Delaney and Horgan explained that they were so impressed with Fisher’s speech that they decided to send the Star Wars actress a script for the show in the hopes of casting her as the foul-mouthed mother of one of the show’s central characters.

“We were at the Attitude Awards a couple of months ago and Carrie Fisher gave an award to Graham Norton,” Delaney told BBC Breakfast.

“Her speech was hilarious and razor sharp and funnier than anything else we saw that night. Sharon said ‘what if we get her to play her mum’ and I told her to simmer down because she was quite drunk,” he joked. “But then we sent her the scripts and the pilot and she said she wanted to do it.”
