RuPaul has made her-story as the first drag performer to host Saturday Night Live.
The legendary drag queen, 59, opened the iconic variety show on Saturday (8 February) with a monologue which introduced the parts of America yet to be infiltrated by Drag Race to some of the the show’s now-famous lexicon.
“My name is Ru – which is short for RuPaul’s Drag Race” the Emmy-winning presenter quipped.
As is customary, Ru took part in a series of comedy sketches across the night, starring alongside comics including Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and Ariana Grande’s ex Pete Davidson, who was transformed into America’s Next Drag Superstar.
Despite making SNL history, though, Saturday didn’t in fact mark Ru’s first appearance on SNL.
The drag superstar once appeared as part of sketch during an episode in 1993 – the same year he achieved his mainstream music breakthrough with dance anthem ‘Supermodel (You Better Work’).
