RuPaul on Perez and CBB: ‘I don’t like rewarding bad behaviour’

By Will Stroude

RuPaul has admitted he stopped watching Celebrity Big Brother after Perez Hilton re-entered the house after living in a separate room as part of a secret task.

Speaking exclusively to attitude.co.uk, the Drag Race star admitted that although he’d known the notorious gossip blogger “for years”, he didn’t like “rewarding people for bad behaviour”.

Asked what he’d made of this year’s CBB – which saw Hilton narrowly missed out on a place in tonight’s final after being evicted from the house on Wednesday night (February 4) – the 54-year-old said:

“I love [the show], although I did stop watching it once they allowed Perez to come back into the house. I thought that was total bullshit.

“You know, I’ve known him for years. And it’s like I said, I just stopped watching it because I think it’s was pretty foul for [the producers to do that].

“They obviously did it for ratings, and I thought, ‘You know what, I’m done. I’m done.’ And it worked, and that’s great, but I don’t like rewarding people for bad behaviour.”

Of friend and fellow Drag Race judge Michelle Visage – who labelled Hilton “an embarrassment” to the gay community during their time together in the house – RuPaul said: “Of course I hope she wins! I think she’s done very well in there, I really do.

“I’d never seen it before; this is the first time I’ve watched it, but I’ve really loved a lot of the people in there. Obviously I’ve read about Katie H before, before I’ve seen her on the show, but on the show I fell in love with, she’s fantastic.”

After dividing viewers and likening his experience on the show to being “diagnosed with AIDs in the early ’80s”, Hilton has previously been labelled a “a knob” by Alan Carr and “a poor excuse for a human being” by former Welsh rugby international star Gareth Thomas.

Meanwhile, the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race is set to hit US screens on March 2 on Logo TV, and will feature appearances from guest judges including Ariana Grande, Mel B, Kathy Griffin, Demi Lovato, Olivia Newton-John, Alyssa Milano, Jordin Sparks, Kat Dennings and John Waters.

Jonathan Ross recently spoke exclusively to attitude.co.uk about the possibility of a UK version of the popular series – read the full interview here.

RuPaul has already thrown his support behind Ross’ idea, telling fellow judge Michelle Visage last year: “Let’s do it! I’m ready for it” – find out more here.

Celebrity Big Brother: Live Final airs tonight (February 6) at 9pm on Channel 5.
