The Queen of Drag, RuPaul, is a busy woman these days. As well as fronting multiple editions of Drag Race, she’s just been announced as the face of ITV’s new primetime game show, Celebrity Lingo.
A spinoff of ITV’s Lingo, the celebrity version stars compete against each other to fill in the blanks to solve missing words.
We’re sure RuPaul, who is accustomed to handling big personalities on Drag Race, will be more than capable of keeping the celebs in check.
“People want to have fun”
On the announcement, RuPaul said: “Now, more than ever before, people want to have fun, and Celebrity Lingo is here to serve it up generously.”
ITV’s Lingo reboot first aired in 1998 but was revived in 2021 with an updated format and hosted by British comedian Adil Ray.
Ray’s non-celebrity show has been renewed for a third season and he shared gratitude for the show’s success.
“I’m so grateful to everyone watching at home, the entire crew and our fab contestants for giving me another chance to host one of the best shows on TV. Even to those who shout four-letter Lingos at me in the street! Welcome to the team, RuPaul.”
It was also recently announced that RuPaul will be the host of Lingo’s US version.
In a statement to Deadline about the US show, Mitch Graham, Vice President of Alternative Programming at CBS, said: “RuPaul’s flair and sharp wit, coupled with the ability for viewers to play along at home, make this a timely show with wide appeal that we’re excited to join our network lineup.”
Alongside these reincarnations of Lingo, RuPaul is staying busy with her ever-growing Drag Race Empire.
The latest Drag Race franchise spinoff is sashaying to Belgium and, according to the show’s Twitter, casting applications are being accepted until 8 May.
