RuPaul’s Drag Race star Brita quits social media after receiving abuse and death threats
The recent eliminee is taking a break after receiving hateful messages, including one threatening to push her in front of a train.

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 contestant Brita – sometimes known as Brita Filter – has announced a break from social media after receiving hateful messages, including death threats, following her appearance on the show.
Brita, who was eliminated from the competition two weeks ago, was a divisive figure in the latest season as she came across as shady in the edit – particularly towards fellow queen Aiden Zhane.
Now, after claiming to receive hundreds of hate-filled messages every day during quarantine, she’s decided it’s time to step back from social media, saying, “I told myself I would stop when I stopped having fun. I’m taking a break from all of this cause it’s not fun anymore.”
In a series of Instagram stories, the New York queen detailed some of the types of messages she’s been sent.
She wrote: “I would get 100s of these messages a day while in quarantine, alone at my partents (sic) house.
“One person told me that if he saw me on the subway platform he would push me in front of a train if it was coming because he didn’t like me on @rupaulsdragrace.”
She said she is “grateful” to have been eliminated, “so the hate could slow down,” adding, “Not stop, but slow down”.
Brita shared screenshots of messages from one user, repeatedly calling her “crusty” and calling her “a big mouthed bitch”.
“God bless your awful personality and crusty ashy makeup,” the troll wrote. “God needs to bless you with grace and decorum and a good wig, and a smaller mouth you looking like a fish gobble gobble bitxh (sic).”
In between messages criticising her appearance, Brita replied with “God bless you,” and “Hope you’re staying safe during these uncertain times,” saying that she responds in the same way to all her haters.
She wrote, “I know who I am. I am a good person with a good heart.
“We are all human we make mistakes. I hope these people see their mistakes and change.
“We are all going through it. Try to lead with kindness
Brita has also deleted all her tweets, except one:

In March, allegations of sexual assault from 2018, made against Brita by her drag daughter, resurfaced, prompting the queen to vehemently deny them.
It was around this time that fellow competitor Sherry Pie was disqualified from the competition’s finale after she was accused of catfishing several male actors by pretending to be a casting agent and coercing them into stripping and performing sex acts on camera.
It’s unclear whether she – real name Joey Gugliemelli – will be eliminated in one of the remaining episodes before the season 12 finale airs next month.
