Russell T Davies: ‘I wasn’t trying to represent gay people with Cucumber’
By Josh Haggis
Russell T Davies has insisted that he wasn’t trying to represent the entire LGBT community in Cucumber.
In an interview with Metro, the Queer As Folk creator has argued that even if he had attempted to represent everyone, it may not have been noticed because “no one likes looking at a photo of themselves”.
“To be honest, when you’re dealing with a minority here like the gay community, you get people saying: ‘Why don’t you represent me? Why am I not on screen? Actually I think the truth is that, at least partly, I’m not here to represent people anyway,” said Davies.
“Really, I can represent someone very accurately and they wouldn’t recognise themselves – no one likes looking at a photo of themselves,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ofcom recently revealed that they received two viewer complaints regarding the show’s explicit sex scenes – find out more here.
