Russell Tovey is set to star in a new ITV thriller from the creator of Luther.
The Years and Years star, 37, will lead the cast of Neil Cross’s Because the Night, an upcoming four-part drama about a man trying to escape his dark past.
Tovey plays Nathan, a directionless man with a terrible secret whose new life is rocked when a face from his past, Bob (played by Doctor Foster’s Bertie Carvel) turns up on his doorstep.
“Because the Night is going to challenge me as an actor more than I’ve ever been challenged before”, says Tovey.

“As a web of lies, that he thought was dead and buried, comes back to haunt Nathan, he sinks deeper and deeper into the horror of the event that happened ten years ago.
“I cannot wait to start filming and join this amazing team and cast”.
Tovey, who will soon be seen on the big screen opposite Sir Ian McKellen in upcoming drama The Good Liar, sparked speculation he had reunited with ex-fiancé Steve Brockman earlier this summer after sharing pictures of the pair’s dogs together on his bed.
Tovey and Brockman first began dating in 2016, before former Looking star Tovey announced his “completely unexpected” engagement to the former King’s Cross Steelers rugby player in February last year.
Things came to a premature end just four months later however when Tovey anounced the couple’s split, deleting all pictures of the pair on his Instagram.
Because the Night is currently filming in London ahead of a 2020 premiere on ITV.
