Russia‘s Muz-TV music awards are facing an investigation over claims it has broken the country’s infamous ‘gay propaganda law.’

The news follows guests walking the red carpet at the ceremony on Friday 4 June 2021 in an array of daring and eye-catching looks.

Among them was social media star Danya Milokhin, who attended in a half-dress, half-tuxedo outfit.

Meanwhile pop star Filipp Kirkorov and rapper Dava arrived flanked by shirtless, oiled up bodybuilders.

Now, the show’s broadcaster is facing a probe from the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media – also known as Roskomnadzor.

The organisation told state-owned news agency RIA Novosti: “Roskomnadzor will analyze the recordings of the Muz-TV channel broadcasting the award for violations of the current legislation of the Russian Federation, including in the field of protecting children from information harmful to their health and development.

“In case of violations, Roskomnadzor will take appropriate response measures.”

The Russian federal law “for the Purpose of Protecting Children from Information Advocating for a Denial of Traditional Family Values” effectively bans any positive representation of LGBTQ life in Russia. It was signed in by Russian leader Vladimir Putin in 2013.

As detailed in the new Netflix doc Hating Peter Tatchell, the veteran human rights activist of the same name fell foul of the law in 2018 and ended up in prison after protesting homophobia in Russia and Chechnya’s anti-gay purge at that year’s Moscow-hosted World Cup.
