Sam Smith, Kylie to headline iTunes Festival 2014

The first wave of performers who will play at London’s iTunes Festival this September have been announced.
Sam Smith, whose LP In the Lonely Hour became the fastest-selling debut album of the year when it was released last month, joins Aussie pop superstar Kylie Minogue as part of the line-up.
Other acts who have been confirmed to perform at the Roundhouse in London’s Camden during the festival’s 30-day run include Blondie, Maroon 5, Pharrell Williams, David Guetta, 5 Seconds of Summer, Calvin Harris and Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde. More acts are set to be announced at a later date.
“Last year I was in the audience for Jake Bugg at the iTunes Festival,” said Smith. “To think that I’m going to be doing it this year is so amazing.”
Kylie said of her performance: “Playing London is always special and playing the Roundhouse is going to be amazing. It’s such an iconic and intimate venue – I can’t wait to put on a show for everyone.”
Meanwhile, pop icons Blondie said that they were looking forward to returning to the iconic London venue: “We love playing London, we love playing the Roundhouse, and what’s not to love about the iTunes Festival?” the band said in a statement.
“This venue is in our blood, we first played there in 1978 and it was a breakthrough we never looked back from. You can feel the history there and we are always proud to return and make some more.”
Tickets to the eighth annual iTunes festival are free to the public and available through competitions and a ballot on iTunes. Performances will be available to stream via iPhone, iPad, iPod and iTunes.
