Sam Smith rocks GQ cover for Men of the Year awards

By Nick Bond

Bond theme singer Sam Smith was among the big winners at last night’s GQ Men of the Year awards – and he’s on the cover of their new issue looking very dapper, too.

Smith was in attendance at the awards, held at London’s Royal Opera House and hosted by Samuel L Jackson, and admitted he’d known for a good 12 months that he’d be singing the Bond theme – despite vehemently denying it as recently as last week.

“I’ve been keeping it a secret for a year. I just lied, I don’t think I lied very well,” he told reporters on the red carpet.

“I wanted to get the song perfect before I confirmed in my mind that this was actually happening,” he said.

“Which I still kind of haven’t done.”

Sam was among the high-profile men honoured at the awards, including comedy actor turned action hero Paul Rudd, recent Glasto highlight Lionel Richie and eternal Attitude favourite, David Gandy – who elicited perhaps the quote of the night from Will Ferrell:
