Sarah Jessica Parker has discussed Kim Cattrall’s absence from And Just Like That…
The star, who reprised the role of Carrie Bradshaw for the Sex and the City spin-off show, made the comments while being interviewed by her friend Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live this week.
Cattrall, who played maneater Samantha on the original HBO show, bowed out after saying in an interview that she took Sam “past the finishing line” with the poorly-received 2011 Sex and the City 2 movie.
“I thought it mimicked many friendships that challenge”
SJP told Andy “Samantha is not gone,” adding: “The actress that played the role is no longer playing that role, but people are absent from your life when you don’t want them to be.
“[…] I thought that in typical Michael Patrick fashion, he threaded it through with grace and dignity and respect and love and affection for that character.”
The 56-year-old continued: “I thought it mimicked many friendships that challenge each other and struggle and want to remain connected in a way, because it’s too painful.”
Fans have speculated whether Cattrall and Parker’s well-publicised feud was the reason for Cattrall’s absence from And Just Like That…
The feud climaxed in 2018, following Parker publicly consoling Cattrall over the death of her brother, with Cattrall replying on Instagram: “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
