Schitt’s Creek stars all land Emmy nominations for show’s final season

Scitt’s Creek has bought its uplifting six season arc to the perfect end with Emmy nominations for all four of its main stars.

Eugene Levy (Johnny Rose), Dan Levy (David Rose), Catherine O’Hara (Moira Rose) and Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose) were all including in thre comedy acting categories when this yea’rs Emmy Award nominations were announced on Tuesday (28 July).

The series itself, which charts the formerly wealthy Rose family’s exploits after they’re forced to relocate to a small back-water town in Canada, was nominated for a whpping 15 Emmys, breaking the record for most nominations given to a comedy in its final series.

Dan Levy, who has won widespread acclaim for his sensitive and hilarious portrayal of pansexual David on the series, reacted with shock to news of his nomination on Twitter, writing: “for once I am speechless”.

His father and series co-creator Eugue Levy added: “Such a nod of recognition for the work of every talented soul who worked on our show!”

Speaking to Attitude earlier this year, Dan Levy reflected on the show’s quietly revolutionary handling of stories surrounding sexuality and acceptance.

“It felt in a way kind of irresponsible not to seize that opportunity and tell stories that meant something, and stories that I haven’t really seen that much on television”, siad Levy, who identifies as gay in real life.

“So, in that capacity it was really important. I was really proud of the work that we did, and I really loved the stories that we’re able to tell.”

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on 21 September from 01.00 BST.
