Scott Mills says Eurovision entry Electro Velvet "really split people"

Scott Mills has called on the UK to back Eurovision hopefuls Electro Velvet.

The duo will perform their entry ‘Still In Love With You’ at the grand final next Saturday, May 23.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Mills acknowledged that the track had “split people”, but predicted that if the UK doesn’t fully back the song, other countries will also fail to do so.

Explaining that he is “not one to talk down an entry”, Mills said: “We need to get behind it because this goes back to what I was saying before: if we don’t have any faith in it, then Europe will notice.

“I think it did really split people, because it’s quite a quirky song, but I think we’ve got a better chance than people think we have. It’s something quite uptempo and fun, in a sea of ballads.”

The Radio 1 DJ said that he hopes to see Electro Velvet at least finish “on the left hand side of the leader board” next week.

“I think we can do that. Can we win it? I would never say never because, like I said, it’s quite a quirky song. I think it’s the kind of song that people in other countries might think is very British.

“Even though it’s not the style you would necessarily hear on the radio here, it sounds very old school, ’20s and ’30s Charleston, London Town type vibe. Slightly posh and wearing a dinner jacket – that could work for us.”

Mills will team up with Mel Giedroyc to provide live commentary of the two semi-finals, broadcast live on BBC Three on May 19 and May 21.
