Scott Mills: ‘There’s no homophobia on Strictly’

Scott Mills has responded to claims that Strictly Come Dancing is homophobic for not giving him a male dancing partner.

The gay radio DJ will dance with newcomer Joanne Clifton when the series returns to screens in a few weeks time.

Speaking to Metro, he said: “It is the campest glitziest show on television. If there is homophobia over Strictly Come Dancing then the show wouldn’t exist.

“It’s all in the hands of producers, although apparently it doesn’t work as well in things like ballroom.”

He added that Anton Du Beke was more than happy to dance with him, and teased him that they would become the first same-sex couple.

“Anton Du Beke was teasing me for quite a while that it was going to be him and that would be the big surprise on the night and he was well up for that,” Mills said.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to screens on Friday, September 26, as the couples take to the dancefloor for the first time.
