Sense8’s Miguel Ángel Silvestre reflects on show: ‘We were like a family who made out’
The Spanish star bid farewell to the groundbreaking sci-fi series in our Summer issue.

Sense8 star Miguel Ángel Silvestre says he will miss playing Lito Rodriguez now that the Netflix sci-fi series has come to an end.
The Spanish actor, 36, admits he would be friends in real life with the character, who he has portrayed across two seasons and a feature-length series finale, set to premiere on Netflix on Friday (June 8).
Reflecting on Sense8’s conclusion in Attitude’s Summer issue – available to download and in shops now – Silvestre tells us: “I’m going to miss the joy that I have for Lito. He would be my friend in life. Even if I didn’t know him, if somebody
was trying to [attack] him, I would fight for him.
“There is something about his ambition and the way he lives, and his innocence. I’m friends with that type of energy. I know that sometimes he is a bit blind and he doubts himself, but at his heart he’s innocence and pure love.

“I’ll miss him, of course. But there is always Netflix and the replay button!”
Discussing the road towards the series finale, which was greenlt by Netflix following a noisy campaign by fans following the show’s cancellation last year, Miguel recalls: “It was really open. We were always asking Lana [Wachowski, creator] things such as, ‘Where is this going to land? Where are we at this point? What is going to happen now?’
“She was telling me everything that she had in mind, and I saw where she was going. So, we never thought we were going to be done with it. But it is what it is.”
“When we were going to do some of the ‘edgier’ scenes, Lana would talk to us about how important it was for her to tell this story, and how sexuality is important to her because it’s about a connection and empathy, and it speaks about a vulnerable place where we are all the same deep down.
“She made us feel that we were doing something worthwhile. In the end, we were like a family that made out with one another.”
He adds: “Some of them are my friends, my siblings for ever, but I don’t know if I’m going to live this tight and close experience with any of them again.
“We knew this was the end so we just wanted to make sure that we were going to enjoy and remember it.”
