Sex Education creator teases final series won’t be ‘wrapped up completely perfectly’
"I’m hopeful that there’s a bittersweetness to [the ending]," said Sex Education's creator Laurie Nunn
In a new interview, Sex Education creator Laurie Nunn has revealed details about the show’s finale.
The fourth and final season of Netflix’s Sex Education will be released on Thursday (21 September).
Ahead of the premiere, Nunn has shared that the show won’t be “wrapped up completely perfectly”.
Speaking to The Guardian, Nunn also shared that she hopes fans will be satisfied by the final climax.
“I think if you start writing while thinking about how people are responding to the work, it can become very self-conscious,” she explained about being off social media.
“I’m hopeful that there’s a bittersweetness to [the ending], and that there’s everything people want in there, even though it might not be wrapped up completely perfectly.”
Nunn said she is “really proud of what the show has achieved and the conversations it started.”
She did note that with the vast amount of characters and storylines, the writing process could be “quite stressful” at times.
Nunn admitted: “I feel relieved not to be on that rollercoaster for a little bit, and just take a breath.”
“Things move so fast nowadays and there’s so much amazing TV out there.”
“If people remember them in a loving way, I’ll be happy”
She added: “I’m always joking that my baby’s gonna get older and be like: ‘Oh no, Mum, you made that really problematic, really embarrassing sex show’.”
“But I really enjoyed writing these characters and I feel really connected to them,” Nunn also adds. “So if people remember them in a loving way, I’ll be happy.”
The final season of the show sees Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) begin a new frontier.
With the closure of Moordale Secondary, the familiar gang arrives for their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College.
With a whole season of sex, tears, and love ahead, Sex Education is sure to go out with a bang.
Sex Education season four starts on 21 September on Netflix.
