Shirley Bassey to release new album next month
By Sam Rigby
Shirley Bassey has announced that she will release a new album next month.
Hello Like Before is Bassey’s first album in five years, and also celebrates her 60 years as an entertainer.
The album features a selection of Bassey’s favourite songs from the 20th century, including a song she has always wanted to re-record.
She recorded a brand new version of Goldfinger wearing a ball gown in London’s Abbey Road studios.
“I got a couple of notes wrong originally!” Bassey explained. “After 50 years I got the chance to re-record it and get it right.”
Bassey’s versions of Sting’s Englishman in New York, Nina Simone’s Wild Is The Wind and The Beatles hit Hey Jude also feature on the tracklisting, alongside a duet with Paloma Faith on Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.
