Simon Cowell has dismissed speculation that Rita Ora and Rihanna are in talks for roles on The X Factor this year.

The 54-year-old and Cheryl Cole are returning to the judging panel later in 2014, following a three-series absence, but it is currently unclear who will fill the other two vacant seats.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the Britain’s Got Talent launch yesterday (April 9), he said: “In terms of the rumours, Rita Ora, no, Rihanna we never spoke to.

“Louis [Walsh] I would like to come back, but it’s a decision I’ve got to make with the producers and ITV, so we’ll see what happens.”

Last month, Walsh suggested that Ellie Goulding may join the ITV show for its eleventh series.

Meanwhile, Cowell’s X Factor musical I Can’t Sing! opened to positive reviews at the London Palladium recently.

His close friend Sinitta told Attitude that John Barrowman should play Simon in the production, when Nigel Harman chooses to step down from the role.
