Sir Ian McKellen rumoured to be joining the ‘Loose Women’ panel
British daytime television is set for a shake-up, with Sir Ian McKellen among a number of male celebrities rumoured to be joining the panel of ITV daytime talk show Loose Women.
Loose Women Editor Sally Shelford has revealed to The Mirror that ITV bosses will be airing a special edition of the program on Friday 15 January, entitled Loose Women & Men, with Peter Andre and Craig Revel Horwood among the other guest panellists to join the program.
“We want to give our loyal viewers the chance to see their favourite outspoken male celebs providing a man’s eye view on the trending topics of the day,” she said.
“Many of the male guests who come on the show believe they can give our panellists a run for their money.
“Now we are giving them the chance to put their money where their mouth is and see whether they can hack it in the Loose Women hot seat.”
It is believed if the special one-off program is a hit with ITV viewers, producers will continue to broadcast ‘Loose Women & Men’ once a month.
Another source told The Mirror there were many high profile male celebrities including Piers Morgan, Paddy McGuiness and Paddy Tomlinson, who keen to “take their turn on the panel”.
“There are a few outrageous topics for them to discuss this Friday and we can’t wait to hear Craig and Peter’s perspective on some controversial battle-of-the-sexes debates,” they said.
McKellen last appeared as a guest on Loose Women back in 2012 while promoting The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, in which he reprised his role as Gandalf.
When asked by Janet Street-Porter about co-founding charity Stonewall, the now 76-year-old spoke about the impact of the gay rights organisation upon the LGBT community.
“We didn’t have a list of aims, we just wanted equality for gay people, legal equality, and that’s all happened, and social equality, which I guess at the time was persuading the public that it was time that we were relaxed and treated each other all the same,” he said.
