Sister Act to be remade by the writers of Legally Blonde

Musical comedy Sister Act is the latest ’90s classic to come in for the remake treatment – this time courtesy of the writers of Legally Blonde.
Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, whose credits also include 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s the Man, have begun work on the follow-up to the 1992 musical film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Starring Whoopi Goldberg as a Reno lounge singer forced into witness protection in a San Francisco convent, Sister Act was a box office success on release, taking $231 million worldwide.
Co-starring Maggie Smith and Hocus Pocus’s Kathy Najimy, the film spawned a 1993 sequel featuring Lauryn Hill and a Tony award-winning Broadway musical.
Plot details of the remake are being kept under wraps for now, and it’s unclear whether Whoopi or any or the other original cast will return for the remake.
The news comes after it was reported last month that ’90s teen cult classic The Craft will also be getting a modern-day remake, with up-and-coming horror director Leigh Janiak at the helm.
