Steps’ Faye Tozer plots solo pop comeback
By Will Stroude
Steps singer Faye Tozer has revealed that she is plotting a solo pop comeback.
After Steps split in 2001, Tozer scored a top ten hit the following year with Someone Like You – a collaboration with classical singer Russell Watson – but hasn’t released any solo material since.
Now, speaking to attitude.co.uk ahead of her appearance at Northern Pride in Newcastle next weekend (July 18-20), the 38-year-old revealed that she is heading back into the studio to work on solo material.
“I’m working on some solo stuff and also writing music for a film, which is really exciting,” Tozer explained.
“I’ve not been in the studio for years – I used to have my own recording studio but that went with the ex-husband! But I feel like I’m ready to do it now. I’ve dusted off the guitar and I’m getting ready to rock and roll again!”
Tozer added that she is aiming for a “slightly grown-up pop” sound with her solo material – and said that she is inspired by artists like Gwen Stefani and Kylie Minogue.
“I think they’ve got great songs and have been able to grow up but still remain young at heart,” Tozer explained. “It will be nice to see what happens.”

Faye Tozer will perform at the Pride in the City Stage at Newcastle’s Times Square on Friday (July 18), before taking to the Main Stage at Newcastle Moor alongside the likes of Shayne Ward on Saturday (July 19). Entry to the event is free.
