Strictly judge: ‘No same-sex couples this year’
By Will Stroude
Strictly Come Dancing
judge Craig Revel Horwood has said he doubts a same-sex partnership will appear on the hit BBC show this year.
The Strictly stalwart previously hinted that the pairing of a celebrity and same-sex professional dancer was “on the cards” and would happen “this year or next”.
However,he told This Morning presenters Gok Wan and Amanda Holden yesterday (June 9) he thought it was looking unlikely.
“I doubt it will happen this year”, he confessed.
“But I’d love it to happen because that might put a spanner in the works. It’d be wonderful to have [former X Factor host] Dermot O’Leary as part of one of those teams!”
Wouldn’t we all, Craig?
The dancer and choreographer, who will soon take to the stage as Miss Hannigan in a new production of Annie, seemed a little X Factor obsessed, as he was asked who his ideal Strictly contestant would be.
“My dream contestant would be Simon Cowell,” he said. “And I’ll happily – and I’ll say this on national television – swap places darling. I’ll go on X Factor if he comes on Strictly!”
I think its safe to assume which of the X Factor gentlemen we’d rather see strutting their stuff on a Saturday night…
Strictly featured its first same-sex dance last year, when professional dancer Robin Windsor danced with reigning champion Aljaž Skorjanec – click here to watch the moment.
Last year, gay Radio 1 presenter Scott Mills defended the BBC’s decision to pair him with a woman during the competition, saying that same-sex pairings don’t “work as well in things like ballroom”.
