‘Strictly’ star asks for same-sex couple to compete on show

Robin Windsor has revealed that he has asked Strictly bosses if a same-sex couple can compete on the BBC1 dancing contest this year.
The professional dancer, who is currently dating former X Factor contestant Marcus Collins, suggested that a same-sex couple could compete on either the show’s one-off Children in Need or Chrismas specials in an effort to “test the waters”.
“I spoke to producers about having a same-sex couple competing,” Windsor told the Daily Star.
“I’m not sure if the British public are ready for it on the main show,” 34-year-old Windsor admitted, before adding: “But I think it would be a good idea to do it on a Children In Need special or the Christmas show. It would be a good way to test the waters. Then, if the public love it, why not go all out and do it for a full series? I’m up for anything.”
Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood has also backed the idea, telling the newspaper: “I think they should have two men or two women together. It might be the right time, with gay marriage a national debate. Why not? I would love to see it.”
Marcus Collins recently hit back at critics who claim that two men shouldn’t be allowed to dance together on the show, saying: “I understand that in the public’s perception those dances are supposed to be a man and a woman. [But] it’s only a matter of time before enough people speak up and it’s gonna be changed. History speaks for itself.”
