Swedish songstress Tove Lo opens up about bisexuality

Swedish songstress Tove Lo’s new album Lady Wood allows a glimpse into her sexually liberated world. Her stories of ‘picking up daddies in the playground” have resulted in a brutally honest and unapologetic collection of tracks that have gained her a legion of fans, and in Attitude’s January issue – available to download and in shops now – the Swedish singer opened up to us about music, sex, and identity.
Songs such as ‘Cool Girl’ and ‘True Disaster’ demonstrate how her style of sleek driving pop has landed her with premium party-girl status. “I had this idea that I wanted to mix more aggressive, minimal, more techno beats with my pop melodies and lyrics.” the 28-year-old explains.
Tove’s lyrics run with an honest theme, which must appeal to anyone who has ever kept from living an honest life. On a non-shocking note she has a tonne of gay fans, and counts herself as bisexual.
“Being open and owning my sexuality in both ways – with both men and women – I think that’s just never been a big deal”, she says. adding that she was very lucky growing up in a liberal country.
“If you’ve grown up in a place where being gay is shameful then even if I’m not singing about my sexuality, hopefully the openness makes you relate to it.”
