The true story of the secret love affair between two Hollywood actors is heading to the big screen.
The new film will be based around Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins who had a secret romance during the 1950s – a time when homosexuality was illegal – according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Titled Tab & Tony, the film – which will be heading to the big screen thanks to Zachary Quinto and J.J Abrams – is based on Hunter’s first-person account of his struggle to come to terms with his sexuality.
Hunter’s 2005 memoir, ‘Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star’, chronicles how the actor rose above the pressure to conform to the boy-next-door image and to embrace his true identity and share his story.
It was turned into an acclaimed 2015 documentary of the same name.
Hunter – who is set to turn 87 next month – is best known for starring in The Burning Hills and The Girl He Left Behind both released in 1956.
Perkins – who shot to fame as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho – dies of Aids-related pneumonia in 1992.
Quinto and Abrams will be producing alongside Hunter’s longtime partner Allan Glaser with Doug Wright penning the script.
