Taika Waititi is open for exploring Valkyrie’s sexuality in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Last year, during San Diego Comic Con, it was revealed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be giving Thor one more outing in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thor: Love and Thunder will see Chris Hemsworth returning as the God of Thunder with Ragnarok director Waititi back to helm the production.
More excitingly, Natalie Portman is set to reprise her role as Jane Foster who will also be Lady Thor.
And during Comic Con, Tessa Thompson, who portrayed Asgardian warrior Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame, said she will be looking for her ‘queen’ in the fourth movie.
And now, Waititi said he is ‘pretty supportive’ when it comes to introducing a same-sex relationship in the new movie – which is set to be released next year.
When asked if he is open to exploring Valkyrie’s sexuality, the Oscar winner told Variety: “I think so. The IP is not mine.
“But with the actors, I feel whatever makes them comfortable – whether they feel like there’s a natural choice, or a natural way for that character to go – then I’m pretty supportive.
“If Tessa wanted to do that, I’m in.”
Although during Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie reportedly came out as bisexual – which the character identifies in the comics – the scene was cut from the cinematic release, but it seems the MCU are pushing for more LGBTQ representation and it’s about time.
