Taron Egerton has missed out on an Academy Award nomination for his acclaimed turn in Rocketman.
The Welsh actor and former Attitude cover star was tipped to land a nod for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as Elton John after taking home the Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) award at the Golden Globes earlier this month, but was snubbed as the list of nominees was revealed on Monday (13 January).
There was better news for Sir Elton John, however, who was nominated for Best Original Song for Rocketman track (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’.
Taron, who also accepted the Attitude Film Award at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar, for Rocketman last October, used his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes to pay tribute to Sir Elton and his husband David Furnish, who could be seen celebrating wildly as his win was announced.
“This role has changed my life. It’s been the best experience of my life. I am so proud of the film,” Taron said, before thanking Furnish “for alllowing me to believe I was the man to play your husband.”
He added: “And finally, to Elton John. Thank you for the music. Thank you for living a life less ordinary and thank you for being my friend.”
The 92nd Academy Awards will take place on February 9.
